A substantial composition mannequin head depicting a judge, complete with an attached barrister's wig. This robust display bust would have been employed by a legal outfitter or a theatrical costumier, crafted to embody the formal presence of the British judiciary.
Dating from the mid-20th century, most likely the 1940s or 1950s, the composition material has developed a rich, dark patina across the face and neck. Areas of surface wear are visible, particularly on the shoulders, charting its decades of display. The attached wig, an authentic frizz top and queue, shows expected dishevelment but remains firmly fixed.
The sculptor imbued this piece with a distinct personality. The slight, knowing smile, deep-set eyes, and pronounced eyelashes give it an individual character, distinguishing it from a standard shop fixture. It serves as a striking representation of a legal figure from a specific era.
